In celebration of the new look and feel of the blog I figured I should write up a post to kick it off right; a post about aliens. Now I know this can be a touchy subject with Christians; are they real or not? But, since I was a kid I’ve always been fascinated with extra-terrestrials and the big budget Hollywood flicks about them. My first “alien” experience was of course ‘Star Wars‘. In this timeless classic there are more alien races to keep up with than there are pages in the script. And since that summer in 1977 the Star Wars universe has expanded beyond even Lucas’ imagination (which honestly isn’t all that great nowadays). Each race and species has its own unique qualities, and their temperament is no exception either. From the barbaric wookie down to the odd desert dwelling Jawas. Aliens are thoroughly seasoned in the Star Wars universe, hostile, friendly and everything in between.

Now for my next alien movie experience, E.T. Here we have a peaceful, innocent extra-terrestrial who simply stopped by for a visit that gets probed and experimented on to the point that he begins to lose his life-force. Ultimately E.T. survives and scatters back to his home planet, and Elliot is forever changed. Awe.

My next, and probably most defining alien flick experience, ALIENS. Yes, Aliens, because I was too young to have seen ‘Alien’ so I naturally picked up with the James Cameron sequel. Interesting side note: H.R. Giger was reportedly upset because of James Cameron’s lack of involving Giger in the design of the alien xenomorphs. However, Giger was reinstated as creative over the alien design by first time Director David Fincher (who later went on to direct two of my favorite movies, ‘Se7en’, and ‘Fight Club’. Okay, so as I was saying, Aliens was where my interest in sci-fi really had a fire put under it. I loved the different ‘kinds’ of aliens, with the alien warrior, the drones, and then the ultimate awesomeness, the queen alien. Dude, she was so stinking cool and creepy at the same time that I felt like my mind was going to melt. So, if you haven’t seen the movie, SPOILER ALER! the xenomorphs are really, REALLY bad guys. They are pretty much humanity’s worse nightmare. The lay their eggs inside of humans until the hatch by busting out of your chest, just one can take out an entire crew of marines, if you shoot them they bleed acid that can eat through like four floors of steel, and they have an extra mouth inside their already gruesome mouth that can launch at you and rip your face off. These are exactly the kind of aliens we DO NOT want arriving on planet earth. But they were really cool.

And so next of course you have Predator. Predator was a mega-killing machine, but I still don’t think he’s as bad of threat as the xenomorph. This dude could turn on invisible camo, could kill you from a mile away with a special shoulder-mounted laser cannon, and had a freaking nuclear bomb strapped to his wrist. Okay, maybe he is as lethal of a threat as the xenomorph. Wow, I’m a nerd.

Lastly (because I’m getting tired of writing), but certainly not least, ‘The Coneheads‘. That’s right, you heard me. The best, most well thought out creature ever to grace the big screen. They have pointy heads, the have sharp teeth, no butt cracks, sleep standing up, and want to destroy the human race.

So there you have it. I think we’ve answered the question, alien, friend or foe? Definitely foe. So in conclusion, if and when an alien race arrives at our door it will be to annihilate us. So sleep in fear tonight and know you can count on one thing, death and taxes.

Peace I’m outta here.
